CSE Communications Office
The College of Science and Engineering Communications Office provides a broad range of college-wide communications, publications, media relations, public relations, and marketing support.
Collegewide support
Our office supports the Dean's Office units (including External Relations, Student Programs, CSE Academic Advising, Career Center for Science and Engineering, CSE Admissions, Diversity and Outreach, International Programs, and other offices) through the following activities:
- manages the college website (including news updates and events listings)
- produces Inventing Tomorrow, a bi-annual magazine for alumni and friends
- writes, edits and distributes the CSE ITems monthly e-newsletter
- edits and distributes mass emails regarding various events and information to alumni, faculty/staff, or students
- writes, edits and distributes weekly email announcements to undergraduate students
- collaborates with offices on event promotion and recognition celebrations
- coordinates college marketing presence at major events including the Minnesota State Fair, E3 Conference and Medical Devices Conference
- produces materials used for new student recruitment
- produces materials used for current students (orientation booklet, job search guide, etc.)
- manages the college's social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, iTunes U, etc.)
Department and center support
The communications staff serves as a primary communications resource to the college's 12 departments and nearly 20 research centers through the following activities:
- provides media relations services
- edits and distributes mass email messages to alumni
- consults on major communications and website projects
- ensures compliance with University brand policy
- conducts training on specific topics to improve communications
- facilitates monthly meetings of communicators to share college-wide information and best practices
University liaison
The communications office serves as the primary liaison between University Relations and the rest of the college through the following activities:
- serves as a primary media contact for the News Service
- contributes ideas and content for the University's Driven to Discover campaign
- distributes communications about legislative activities
- ensures compliance with University brand policy
- collaborates on University-wide events such as the Minnesota State Fair
