Geoengineers plan, analyze, and design water and waste systems, tunnels, dams, and other facilities on or under the surface of the Earth. Equipped with a strong knowledge of geology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering mechanics, geoengineers are involved with predicting and controlling dynamic releases of energy as in damaging rock bursts in mines. Geoengineers develop improved recovery of petroleum resources and study the consequences of disposing unwanted fluids injected into rock formations at depth. The Bachelor of Geoengineering (BGeoE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Students may earn a double degree—bachelor of science in geology and bachelor of geoengineering—with an additional year of study that includes a geology summer field camp.
