Prominent Alumnus, Donor, and Engineer Passes Away

 

J. Leonard Frame, alumnus and longtime donor to the Department of Aerospace Engineering & Mechanics passed away on Sept. 21. Obituary here.

Frame graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1943.  Frame was an expert in the field of wind tunnel technology.  He founded and became president of FluiDyne Engineering Corp., which had a position of international preeminence in the field of aeronautical testing, serving most of the airframe and propulsion industries in the US.   After selling Fluidyne, Frame founded and led Phoenix Solutions Co.   Frame’s achievements in engineering and business were recognized by the University with the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award in 1969.
