Sky Harbor Airport Terminal Renamed for Notable AEM Alum - Robert R. Gilruth

Dr. Robert R. Gilruth, a Minnesota born AEM alum, was celebrated in a dedication ceremony on Oct. 24th, 2024 when the Sky Harbor Airport named a terminal in his honor.  While at the University of Minnesota, Gilruth received a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering in 1935, and a Master of Science in 1936.

Upon graduation, he took a position working at NASA's Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory that would lead to an incredible 40 year career, culminating in Gilruth becoming NASA's first director of the Manned Spacecraft Center overseeing 25 human space flights during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.
