BME releases strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion

April 11, 2022 — The Department of Biomedical Engineering has released the first version of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan. The plan features five main pillars:

  • Recruitment: Attract diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Retention: Establish an environment that is welcoming and supportive to all members, with emphasis on those from underrepresented groups.
  • Advancement: Support members of underrepresented groups through education and workplace advancement.
  • Health equity: Integrate health equity into department curriculum and research.
  • Community engagement: Share department and college resources with the broader Twin Cities and greater Minnesota community.

The plan was created with input from BME community members — including students, faculty, and staff — and places responsibility on each community member.
