Laura Essig joins BME as Undergraduate Program Coordinator

August 3, 2020 — The Department of Biomedical Engineering has named Laura Essig as its Undergraduate Program Coordinator.

Laura has 6.5 years' experience advising students in higher education. She came to the University of Minnesota a year ago when she joined the Office for Community Standards as a Student Conduct Coordinator.

Prior to that, Laura was an Academic Advisor and Recruitment Counselor at Michigan State University (MSU) in the College of Arts & Letters, advising students in Interdisciplinary Humanities, Humanities-Prelaw, and Experience Architecture. During her time at MSU, she advised approximately 250 students, helped coordinate freshman seminars abroad, organized alumni and recruitment events, and worked alongside faculty on curriculum review and improvement.

Laura has a BA in Public Administration and Public Policy, as well as an MA in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education.

She loves working with students and seeing them grow from admission to graduation, and she is excited for the opportunity to partner with Prof. Wang to help BME students reach their academic, professional, and personal goals.
