Current basic research in the areas of environmental hydrodynamics and water quality modeling in natural and manmade water systems. This includes modeling of heat transfer and temperature regimes of lakes and rivers, dispersion and mixing in lakes and reservoirs, dissolved oxygen dynamics, ice covers, and water quality at the sediment-water interface. These topics are also investigated in experimental field and laboratory studies. Applied research on the design of hydraulic facilities, specifically intake and outlet structures, stormwater handling facilities, and lake and reservoir water quality improvement techniques.
Dr. Stefan conducts his research at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory.
