Carol Shield Recognized for Service and Leadership

CAROL SHIELD, CSE Distinguished Professor, has received two significant honors. Shield was recognized for outstanding service to the American Concrete Institute (ACI). She has worked with ACI over twenty years. She served on ACI Committee 440 FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) Reinforcement and served as chair from 2009–2015. Currently Shield is working on the ACI 318 Structural Concrete Building Code equivalent for FRP.

Shield received the Richard P. Braun Distinguished Service Award for outstanding leadership in transportation research and innovation from the Center for Transportation Studies. Shield has been involved with more than 30 transportation-related research projects funded by MnDOT, NSF, NCHRP, and the Corp of Engineers. Her primary research areas are the use of fiber-reinforced polymers in infrastructure and the behavior of prestressed concrete girders.
