  • tenure-track in transportation engineering
  • teaching specialist in structural engineering

Tenure-track Faculty Position in Structural Engineering

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in structural engineering. We are interested in applicants with strong core fundamentals in science and engineering that allow them to move easily across disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to solve complex problems of local and global interests. The appointment is expected to be at the rank of assistant professor, although exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered.

We are seeking individuals with a documented interest in advancing the frontiers of structural engineering.  Candidates with an emphasis in experimental methods and structural mechanics, focused on advancing understanding of structural behavior are encouraged to apply. Experience and interest in large-scale structural testing is preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a strong externally-funded research program. Teaching responsibilities include existing undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, as well as development of new courses in the candidate’s specialty areas. An earned doctorate is required at the time of the appointment.

Tenure-track Faculty Position in Transportation Engineering

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in transportation engineering. We are interested in applicants with strong core fundamentals in science and engineering that allow them to move easily across disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to solve complex problems of local and global interests. The appointment is expected to be at the rank of assistant or associate professor, although exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered.

We are seeking individuals with strong academic background and research potential in one or more of the following areas: transportation systems analysis including traffic systems operations, transportation data analytics, transportation monitoring and assessment, and impacts of vehicle automation. Other areas of transportation engineering also will be considered. Candidates will be expected to initiate and maintain a strong externally funded research program. Teaching responsibilities will include existing undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as the opportunity to develop new courses in specialty areas. An earned doctorate is required at the time of the appointment.

Teaching Specialist Position in Structural Engineering

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities seeks candidates for a teaching specialist. The person in this position will teach undergraduate and mixed undergraduate-graduate courses in the areas of structural mechanics and design. The teaching faculty member is expected to prepare and deliver lectures, prepare homework assignments, quizzes, and exams, hold office hours, assess student work, supervise teaching assistants, and manage the administration of the courses they are assigned to teach. They will also be involved in the continuing improvement of courses and the development of new curriculum.

This position is a nine-month academic appointment that receives full benefits. A 12-month appointment is possible if teaching is performed in the summer as well. The initial contract will be one year, with the option of renewal. If the applicant has a Ph.D., they may be considered for a non-tenure track Lecturer position. Position responsibilities and expectations include teaching 4-5 courses per academic year and advising student chapter activities (e.g., ASCE steel bridge team, ASCE concrete canoe team).
