Chinomso Onuoha wins First Place Award at MCF Spring Symposium

Aug 9, 2023 - Chinomso Onuoha, a sixth-year chemical engineering graduate student co-advised by Professors Paul Dauenhauer and Alon McCormick, recently won a First Place Student Research Award at the Minnesota Chromatography Forum (MCF) Spring Symposium, which consisted of a $1,000 monetary prize.
Silu Guo wins First Place Poster Award at the 2023 Microscopy & Microanalysis meeting

Aug 8, 2023 - Silu Guo, a fourth-year materials science and engineering Ph.D. candidate in Professor Andre Mkhoyan's research group, recently won a First Place Physical Sciences Poster Award at the 2023 Microscopy & Microanalysis meeting, which consisted of a monetary award and certificate. The 2023 event featured platform and poster presentations, a robust trade show, and the world’s largest annual microscopy exhibition, which showcased the latest instrumentation and accessories.
Zachary McAllister receives NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award

July 26, 2023 - Zachary McAllister, a chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate in Professor Joseph Zasadzinski's research group, was recently awarded the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award for his research, "Three-dimensional Confocal Microscopy Visualization and AFM-IR Chemical Mapping of Lung Surfactant Monolayer Collapse Morphologies." The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA program is to enable promising predoctoral students to develop into productive, independent research scientists, and to obtain mentored research training while conducting dissertation research. The award is designated for three years and includes a stipend.

Evgeny Pakhomenko Receives the 2023 SPIE Optics and Photonics Educational Scholarship

July 11, 2023 - Evgeny Pakhomenko, a fourth-year PhD Candidate in Materials Science advised by Professor Russell Holmes, has been awarded a 2023 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. This award goes to SPIE Student Members for potential long-term contributions to the optics and photonics community.

June 21, 2023 - University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering Professor Bharat Jalan has received the prestigious Schieber Prize from the International Organization of Crystal Growth in recognition of his scientific leadership and pioneering work in developing the hybrid molecular beam epitaxy growth technique.
Aditya Bhan honored with 2023 Paul H. Emmett Award & delivers Plenary Lecture at North American Meeting of the Catalysis Society

June 20, 2023 - As the 2023 recipient of the Paul H. Emmett Award in Fundamental Catalysis, Professor Aditya Bhan delivered a Plenary Lecture at the 2023 North American Meeting of the Catalysis Society (NAM28) and will be presented with the award plaque and honorarium during the closing banquet ceremonies. The award recognizes and encourages individual contributions in the field of catalysis with emphasis on discovery and understanding of catalytic phenomena, proposal of catalytic reaction mechanisms and identification of and description of catalytic sites and species.
