Our faculty continue to achieve remarkable milestones in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, earning recognition that underscores the innovation and excellence at the heart of our department. In 2024, they received fellowships, scholarships, prestigious awards, and other honors, demonstrating their leadership in research, education, and innovation. Below, we proudly highlight these exceptional accomplishments:

  • Chris Bartel: Named a Scialog Fellow
  • Michelle Calabrese: Awarded a McKnight Land Grant and a Marion Milligan Mason Award for Women in the Chemical Sciences
  • Paul Dauenhauer: Received a Distinguished McKnight Professorship
  • Prodromos Daoutidis: Honored with the Hutchinson Medal
  • Bharat Jalan: Selected as an American Vacuum Society Fellow
  • Satish Kumar: Appointed to the U.S. National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNC/TAM)
  • Tim Lodge: Inducted into the National Academy of Engineering
  • Matt Neurock: Presented with the Navy Influencer Award
  • Andre Mkhoyen: Recognized as a Fellow of the Microscopy Society of America
  • Kelsey Stoerzinger: Awarded the Ipatieff Prize
  • Qi Zhang: Honored with the Junior Sargent Meda, the Hutchinson Medal,and the CAST Young Researcher Award

Additionally, CEMS faculty members Prodromos Daoutidis, Chris Bartel, Natalie Boehnke, and Qi Zhang are collaborating with scholars from across the College of Science and Engineering on the new Data-Driven Discovery and Engineering from Atoms to Processes program. Funded by a $3 million award from the National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) program, this initiative will train scientists and engineers to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to advance energy security, environmental sustainability, and human health.
