Chris Ellison Named 2025 ACS POLY Fellow

Professor Chris Ellison has received the 2025 POLY Fellow Award by The Division of Polymer Chemistry, Inc. (POLY), a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The POLY Fellow Program was established in 2009 to recognize excellence in all ways that POLY members advance the field of polymer science, either through scientific accomplishments, service to the profession, or both.

Ellison was recognized, “for creative and significant contributions at the intersection of polymer chemistry and processing that have impacted the science and technology of biobased/biodegradable polymers and mixed plastic waste compatibilization to improve polymer sustainability, advanced lithographic patterning materials and processes for data storage and microelectronics, soft robots that can grow their own bodies, and scalable production of nonwoven fibers with prescribed structure and function, and for sustained promotion of excellence in graduate student polymer science and engineering research within ACS.”

Marc Hillmyer, Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Chemistry and a 2012 POLY Fellow, offered the following reflection on Ellison’s work: “Prof. Ellison has established himself as a global polymer science and engineering leader. His research work spans important fundamental contributions that have shaped the field and impactful applied research that has led to numerous practical and societally relevant advances. Notably, his work in plastics recycling and biodegradation are both at the forefront of sustainable polymer science research. Prof. Ellison has certainly earned becoming an ACS POLY Fellow which recognizes not only his innovative scientific achievements but also his many contributions to the profession.”
