Hyunsol Son Receives APS DMP Ovshinsky Travel Award
Congratulations to Hyunsol Son on receiving the APS Division of Materials Physics Ovshinsky Travel Award. Hyunsol is a 3rd year graduate student in Professor Chris Leighton’s research group.
The award provides $750 to help cover meeting registration and travel expenses and supports Hyunsol’s participation in the APS March Meeting, where she will present her research. Her work focuses on electrolyte-gated oxide thin films, with particular emphasis on LaCoO3/SrCoO3−δ heterostructures. Through this research, Hyunsol explores how applying small voltages can precisely control the oxygen vacancies inside oxides, allowing magnetic properties such as exchange bias to be tuned on demand. This work lays the foundation for low-power magnetic memory and next-generation computing technologies like neuromorphic computing.
The Ovshinsky Student Travel Awards were established to support the professional development of student researchers and are named after Stanford and Iris Ovshinsky, in recognition of their strong commitment to scientific education.
Congratulations Hyunsol!
