Matthew Tirrell Named 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient by UMass Amherst

CEMS congratulates Professor Matthew Tirrell on being named the 2025 recipient of the College of Natural Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

This award honors alumni who have become visionary leaders in their fields and who have made exceptional contributions through leadership, teaching, innovation, and service that positively impact science and society.

Nominators praised Professor Tirrell’s career as “orchestrating one of the most challenging tasks in academia: creating a new discipline and establishing a benchmark for others to aspire to.” He will be formally recognized at a ceremony in November at UMass Amherst.
