Meet Vivian Ferry: New Director of Graduate Studies for Materials Science
We are excited to welcome Dr. Vivian Ferry as the new Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) for the Materials Science program in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (CEMS).
Since joining CEMS in 2014, Dr. Ferry’s research has focused on nanoscale light-matter interactions. She works with plasmonics, metamaterials, and semiconductor nanocrystals and is especially interested in applications for solar energy conversion, optoelectronic devices, switchable metamaterials, nanoscale chirality, and new patterning methods.
As DGS, Dr. Ferry brings a strong commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for CEMS graduate students. "Mentorship is about empowering students to pursue their own scientific paths," says Dr. Ferry. "My goal is to help them access the resources and guidance they need to succeed as researchers, educators, and professionals."
Looking forward, Dr. Ferry envisions an evolving graduate program that enhances professional development, strengthens community engagement, and maintains a rigorous, adaptable curriculum. With a focus on inclusivity and collaboration, Dr. Ferry is dedicated to helping all students thrive as they pursue their academic and career goals.
We are thrilled to have Dr. Ferry in this role and look forward to the positive impact she will bring to our graduate community.
