Satish Kumar awarded the 2026 John A. Tallmadge Award for Contributions to Coating Technology

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (08/31/2026) — Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Satish Kumar, has been selected to receive the 2026 John A. Tallmadge Award for Contributions to Coating Technology, which is jointly sponsored by the International Society of Coating Science and Technology (ISCST) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The Tallmadge award recognizes an individual’s significant contributions to the understanding or improvement of the technology of the coating of continuous webs, and is the preeminent international honor in the area of coating science and technology.  Notably, approximately two-thirds of current ISCST members are from industry.

Professor Kumar's award nomination was based on his path-breaking research on dynamic wetting failure in coating flows, liquid transfer in printing processes, and dynamics of droplets and thin liquid films. He will receive the Tallmadge award at the 23rd International Coating Science and Technology Symposium, which will be held from August 30th to September 2nd in Minneapolis. Previous CEMS recipients of this award are L. E. "Skip" Scriven (1992) and Lorraine Francis (2014).
