Professor Emeritus Wayland E. Noland passed away on October 4, 2022 at the age of 95. He first arrived on campus 71 years ago, followed by a 64-year faculty career, giving him the distinction as the the longest-serving tenured faculty member in University of Minnesota history. For the many people whose time in Chemistry falls within Prof. Noland’s notable career, it is difficult to think of the department without him.

In memoriam: Alumna Julia E. (Rossini) Saunders, Ph.D.

Alumna Julia E. (Rossini) Saunders has passed away from cancer. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Hamline University in 2004, and her doctorate in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2011, working with Professor Wayne Gladfelter.

Miran Kevork Chantooni Jr., 91, died, June 5, 2020. He earned his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1960, and for more than 30 years was the dedicated and devoted post-doctoral associate for Professor Izaak Maurits Kolthoff.
