The Department of Chemistry hosted eighteen high school teachers from Minnesota, South Dakota, and Maine for a three-day workshop (June 20-22) with the goal of learning how to integrate green and sustainable chemistry into their classrooms.

Chemistry department Director of Operations Chuck Tomlinson has received the 2022 President's Award for Outstanding Service. The award, established in 1997, recognizes faculty and staff who have provided exceptional service to the University, its schools, colleges, departments, and service units.
Thomas Smith joins the department as Director of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) laboratory

Dr. Thomas Smith joined the Department of Chemistry in April as the new Director of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) laboratory. As director of the NMR lab, which provides access to equipment and expertise for departmental research and teaching, Smith will be responsible for maintaining the lab and spectrometers, while also training users, collaborating on research projects, and running service samples.
Professor Theresa Reineke appointed associate editor of Chemical Science

Professor Theresa Reineke has been appointed as an associate editor for journal Chemical Science, effective May 1, 2022. Established in 2010, Chemical Science is the flagship journal for the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The journal is diamond open access, with no costs for publishing or reading accepted articles.
Two Chemistry Undergraduate Students Recognized for Leadership and Service

Two undergraduate chemistry majors, Leah Baker and Yukino Nakamura are 2022 recipients of the President’s Student Leadership & Service Award (PSLSA). This award "recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of outstanding student leaders at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. It is presented to students for their exceptional leadership and service to the University of Minnesota and the surrounding community.”
Seven chemistry faculty ranked as Top Scientists in the World, including Professor Donald Truhlar at #14

In the first edition of Research.com’s top scientists ranking, seven current Department of Chemistry faculty were included in the disciplines of Chemistry and Materials Science. Professor Donald Truhlar led the way, with a ranking of #14 in the world and #9 in the United States in Chemistry. He is joined by Professors Lawrence Que, Marc Hillmyer, Timothy Lodge, Jiali Gao, Andreas Stein, and Ilja Siepmann.
