Dr. Victor Young receives Research Technical Staff Award
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (10/23/2024) – The University of Minnesota Research and Innovation Office recently announced the winners of the Research Technical Staff Award, which recognizes staff for their distinguished service to the University of Minnesota research community and celebrates exemplary leadership. The Department of Chemistry’s Director of X-Ray Crystallographic Laboratory Dr. Victor Young was named one of ten awardees.
Young joined the Department of Chemistry in 1995, and has served as director of the X-Ray Crystallographic Laboratory (XCL) in the Department of Chemistry for nearly 30 years. In his role, he delivers crucial research products, including precise 3D models of experimentally-determined crystal structures, to support faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral associates involved in externally-funded research programs across the University. Over the course of his career, he has co-authored over 300 journal articles and mentored generations of students in the basics of crystallography. In addition to his essential research contributions, Young plays a key role in helping XCL continue to secure funding for its research infrastructure and instrumentation.
"Vic is recognized as a significant leader and expert in his field, and we're fortunate to have his skills and knowledge at Minnesota. His legacy grows each year thanks to his graduate level crystallography course as our students move on to successful careers." – Chemistry Directory of Operations Chuck Tomlinson
Young was one of ten recipients of the award, who represent more than 15 departments/units across seven colleges and two campuses. The awardees will be honored at a luncheon with Vice President for Research and Innovation Shashank Priya at the McNamara Alumni Center on October 23.
