White Bear Lake Conservation District discusses possible wake boat regulations
A multiyear study by researchers in the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering’s St. Anthony Falls Laboratory found that wake surf boats generate larger, more powerful waves than conventional recreational boats. Researchers recommend wake surfing at least 500 feet (a little less than 1.5 football fields) from shore, docks and other boats and in water that is at least 20 feet deep to reduce shoreline erosion and sediment disturbance. This AI watches your bubbles to monitor your health underwater
Junaed Sattar, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and senior author on the paper, said, “Our goal was to give divers a dedicated robotic safety partner to provide a second set of ‘eyes’ capable of reading physiological stress underwater. This work is a first step towards assessing not just one but a group of divers in the robot’s field of view.” July 24: CSE UMN News; July 27: Tech Explorist; Bioengineer.org; Scienmag; Open Access Government; News Wise; EurekAlert!; Mirage; Life Technology; July 28: Yahoo! Producing ammonia & fertiliser using wind power in Morris, Minnesota
"Essentially, the wind or the sun is our feedstock. We typically design a chemical plant to run at steady state and produce at a constant rate, assuming that we have a constant supply of our feedstock." Driving the speed limit cuts millions in fuel costs, study finds
"We already understand the physics of how speed affects fuel consumption, but quantifying the exact magnitude of those savings at a national scale gives us a clearer picture of the actual impact," said Bharat Jayaprakash, a doctoral student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota and lead author on the paper.
