Electrical and Computer Engineering Virtual Lunch and Learn

Registration Required • Alumni from all academic majors welcome

Professor Randall Victora, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Head, invites you to gather with fellow alumni and friends for a virtual “Lunch and Learn” on Thursday, Aug. 27. Professor Victora will be joined by Associate Head and Professor Bethanie Stadler. Both will share updates from the department, and Professor Stadler will present an overview of how her research team is using magnetic nanowires to enable disease diagnosis and therapy at the cellular level.

"Nano-Health using Magnetism"

Although they are a million times smaller than a one-inch segment of human hair, magnetic nanowires are scrappy fighters for human health. Researchers at the University of Minnesota are developing magnetic nanowires into collectors of cells and their bio-markers, nano-RFID tags, and nanowarmers. These nanowire "jobs" enable faster diagnosis of disease and also the preservation of human tissues, and perhaps someday even organs.
