ISyE Seminar: “Resilience, Robustness, and Performance”

Graduate Seminar

Please join us for our last seminar of the semester in person! This seminar will feature Michael C. Ferris from the University of Wisconsin, Madison who will discuss resilience, robustness, and performance in optimization problems.

3 p.m. - Reception
3:30 p.m. - Graduate seminar

About the seminar

Resilience, robustness, and performance are objectives that underpin optimization problems. Professor Ferris and his colleagues outline a broad framework that captures these notions and draw in examples from many areas (including biology, environmental and economic settings) with an aim to facilitate cross-disciplinary research. Specific attention will be given to energy modeling and vaccination, how uncertainty can be treated, and how actions and decision processes can be adapted for different settings. This is joint work with Jeff Linderoth.

About the speaker

Michael C. Ferris holds the John P. Morgridge Chair in Computer Sciences and is the Jacques-Louis Lions Professor of Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is the director of the Data Sciences Hub within the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, England in 1989.
