Spitzer images confirm theory of solar system's origins

University astrophysicists were part of a team that used the orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope to produce new infrared images of the Andromeda galaxy and confirm the theory that our solar system—and humanity itself—originated in cosmic dust.

 

"The images confirm what we've been suspecting, namely, that the sun and solar system are composed of elements made in other stars that have long since died," said astronomy professor Robert Gehrz, a member of the team.
