Medtronic cohosted the National Academy of Engineering regional meeting with the University of Minnesota. Visionary leaders and experts from both institutions united to engage a full house of 200 experts across fields on new opportunities for research and discovery in medical device technology.

Jeff Dean (computer science ’90), Google chief scientist, met with College of Science and Engineering alumni and current students prior to his University of Minnesota spring commencement address. They included recipients of the Hopper-Dean Scholarship Honoring Dr. Vipin Kumar that he and wife Heidi Hopper established in 2014.

Stéphane Bancel (chemical engineering M.S. ’95), Moderna CEO, and wife Brenda established the Wei-Shou Hu Fellowship—an unprecedented five-year support for five Ph.D. candidates in interdisciplinary human health and sustainability research. The gift honors Bancel’s former professor, who retired this fall after a 40-year career.
