CSE Engineering Exchange: Southern Norway

A university campus with students sitting on benches and on the grass. There is a concrete walkway bridge above ground level. Brick buildings are in the background.
A group of people standing together on a dock, holding an empty picture frame in front of them. Several boats are docked behind them, and houses line the shore in the background.
A scenic harbor with boats docked alongside colorful houses on a sunny day.
Indoor scene with individuals seated on benches.
A massive building adorned with countless windows, gleaming under the sun's rays.

About the location

Study alongside Norwegians and other international students at the University of Agder (Agder or UiA) in Southern Norway. The University of Agder has a student population of about 14,000 across two campuses: Grimstad and Kristiansand.

Grimstad is an idyllic town with a population of 25,000. Its Agder campus offers courses in engineering, specializing in civil, renewable energy, and mechatronics, and in computer science, specializing in information and communication technology.

Kristiansand, a fast-growing and modern town, is the largest urban area in southern Norway, with a population of 110,000. CSE students can study mathematics and computer science, specializing in information systems, at the Kristiansand campus.

Find more information about this exchange on the UiA Exchange Fact Sheet.

Academics

You can choose courses across faculties (schools/colleges) on the UiA website. Please note that it is not possible to choose courses across campuses—you must choose to study at either the Grimstad or Kristiansand campus. When searching for UiA courses, make sure to filter by both semester and campus.

At UiA, course codes starting with 1-3 are bachelor-level, and course codes starting with 4-5 are master-level. You may take master-level courses if you have met their prerequisites. For any course you are interested in, visit the course webpage to see the relevant prerequisites in the course description. Most courses have recommended and/or required prerequisites.

A full-time course load is typically 30 ECTS credits (1 ECTS = 0.5 UMN credits).

Students are assessed on one or two exams per class and that exam(s) constitutes a student’s entire grade for the class.

Examples of some UMN courses that have equivalents at AiU and are typically taught in English:

  • EE 4701 Electric Drives (MAS 409 Electric Motor Drives)

For a list of current evaluated equivalences, view UNIVERSITETET I AGDER in the Transfer Evaluation System (TES) public view.

Always double check the the updated course availability on the UiA's website.

Courses with passing final grades from CSE exchange partners transfer back to UMN as transfer credit (T). Transfer credit does not affect overall GPA.
