MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (08/26/2010) —The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) Alumni Society will receive a University of Minnesota Alumni Association 2010 Program Extraordinaire Award at a celebratory event honoring premier volunteers, groups, and programs on September 29, 2010 in the McNamara Alumni Center.

The CSE Alumni Society is being recognized for its work on TechFest 2010, which was held in collaboration with The Works museum in Edina, Minn., and the CSE Office of Diversity and Outreach. More than 2,000 people attended the event that featured a multitude of hands-on activities for people of all ages including robots, physics experiments, hovercraft rides, planetarium shows, and more.

Each year, the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Program Extraordinaire Award recognizes exceptional alumni programs sponsored by a collegiate unit, alumni society, or geographic chapter. This year, seven groups and four individuals will receive Alumni Association awards in recognition of outstanding service and programming during the past year.

“The University of Minnesota community benefits in many ways from the valuable contributions and service of its dedicated alumni,” said Phil Esten, president and chief executive officer of the Alumni Association. “We are honored to annually recognize individuals who devote an incredible amount of time, energy and talent to promote the University of Minnesota across the state, nation and world, and who encourage engagement through unique and meaningful ways.”
