MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (10/14/2010) – In October 2010, the College of Science and Engineering at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus marks an important milestone in its history celebrating its 75th anniversary.

On Oct. 19, 1935, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved a new combined college of science and engineering (formerly called the Institute of Technology) bringing together already existing programs in engineering, chemistry, mining, and architecture. On July 1, 2010, the college was renamed the College of Science and Engineering.

Today, the college remains as the only major research institution to combine the physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, and computer science within one college.

To commemorate this historic date and raise the profile of our newly named college, the college has installed a large banner on the south side of Kolthoff Hall, a large window wrap on the south side of the Mechanical Engineering Building, and several floor clings in science and engineering buildings that focus on our college. 3M donated the materials for these promotional items.

In addition, a book written by faculty and students from the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine program entitled "IT 75—College of Science and Engineering: The Institute of Technology Years (1935-2010)" commemorates our college's historic milestone. More information on how to order the book online will be on the college website later this month.

Throughout the rest of the academic year, the college will highlight its strong heritage with a wide variety of speakers, events and celebrations. For more information about upcoming events, visit cse.umn.edu.
