By logging into GoldPASS Powered by Handshake, the University of Minnesota’s recruiting database, you can post full-time and part-time positions, internships, and co-op positions. You can also search student resumes, register for career events and more. GoldPASS powered by Handshake is a free service. Please note that it may take up to two business days for new accounts to be approved.

After the position is posted in GoldPASS powered by Handshake, employers may contact student organizations directly to inquire about ways to promote openings. Be sure to keep the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) Career Center informed of your connections with student groups so we can assist with any promotion and follow-up. Recruiting Timeline

CSE generally has two recruiting cycles each year in fall and spring semesters. The college's career fairs typically kick off the recruiting for each semester. Companies often attend the career fair and follow up with a recruiting event and interviews on campus.

Many companies will recruit full-time spring graduates and summer interns during fall semester. However, some companies recruit year-round, and students look for positions throughout the year.

Internships

An internship is a short-term position, typically three months in the summer, that provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with professionals in a field related to their major. Most science and engineering internships are paid. The majority of CSE students will have at least one internship experience before they graduate. To hire a student for an internship, post the position on GoldPASS powered by Handshake and promote the opportunity at our recruiting events.

Cooperative Education 

Co-ops involve alternating work sessions and full-time course study, often in multiple work terms. They provide a chance for employers to work with students for a longer period of time and allow students to become more involved with in-depth projects and enter the workforce with solid industry experience. CSE has a formal Engineering Co-op Program that includes mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, industrial and systems engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, and biomedical engineering students. If you would like to hire a student for a co-op position outside of the formal co-op program, you can post the position in GoldPASS powered by Handshake. The student will need to get their academic department’s approval if they want academic credit, and should speak with their departmental academic advisor about taking any leave of absence from the University.
