Use CS&E recommender system to stay entertained during pandemic

We are living in a time where just about every film ever made is available on any device at the click of a button.

This plethora of choices can often lead to what psychologists call 'decision paralysis'.

So how do you decide what to watch while you're staying home during the pandemic? Let MovieLens help!

MovieLens was created by our very own GroupLens research lab in 1997. The website lets you pick the movies you like, and then recommends films based on your preferences. As of 2017, the site had accumulated 26 million ratings of more than 70,000 movies by more than 250,000 users.

"We're particularly delighted to see MovieLens being helpful to people at this stressful time," said Professor Joseph Konstan, who oversaw the creation of MovieLens in 1997 and still oversees the site today.

By using MovieLens, you will help GroupLens develop new experimental tools and interfaces for data exploration and recommender systems.

MovieLens and other tools for overcoming 'decision paralysis' were featured in a March 26 story by the Australia Broadcasting Corporation.
