CrashPlan is a file retention cloud-based backup service for University- and personally-owned desktops and laptops.

What’s Included

• Continuous data backups run in the background
  • No file size restrictions
  • Varying versioning and file retention up to 1 year
  • 256-bit AES data encryption standard
• Option to include 4 devices per license.
• Self-service file restoration available via the CrashPlan application or web interface.

What’s Not Included

• CrashPlan may not be used to backup servers.

What You Need to Do

• University units, not individuals, may request CrashPlan licenses via the CrashPlan Licensing Form.
• Current users of CrashPlan can email help@umn.edu to report issues or request assistance.
