Princeton Measurement Corporation MicroMag 3900 Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM)
One of three currently functioning VSM systems at the IRM. Please also see our Lake Shore 8600 VSM and MPMS-3 pages.
Specifications:
- Temperature range: room temperature (no longer supports LHe or high temperature measurements)
- Magnetic Field: 0 T - 1.5 T (maximum field variable with pole gap)
- Lower measurable limit: 100E-9 Am2
- Can accommodate rock chips, capsules in straws, standard paleomagnetic cores, cubes, thin film holders.
- Multiple holders available.
- Field gap can be adjusted.
Measurement Types:
Typically used for:
- Hysteresis loops.
- Backfield remanence curves.
- Isothermal Remanent Magnetization (IRM) acquisition curves.
- First Order Reversal Curves (FORC).
- High-field magnetic anisotropy.
