ISyE@UMN Welcomes Four New Faculty Members

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota is delighted to welcome four new faculty members. These four exceptional hires constitute a substantial increase in the size of our faculty and significantly broaden the research and teaching footprint of the department in the critical areas of data analytics, digital markets, and innovative operations. Together, they are the latest evidence of the tremendous growth ISyE@UMN is witnessing and bring us a step closer to realizing our ambitions for a leading industrial and systems engineering department.

 

Ying-Cui

Ying Cui, Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor Ying Cui’s research focuses on the mathematical foundation of data science with important applications in machine learning, statistical estimation, healthcare and financial engineering. Her research has been published in leading journals such as Mathematical Programming and SIAM Journal on Optimization. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Southern California. Cui holds a Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the National University of Singapore.

Kris-Iyer

Krishnamurthy Iyer, Associate Professor

Associate Professor Krishnamurthy Iyer’s research interests include game theory and stochastic modeling with applications in the design and analysis of online markets and service systems. His current research focuses on studying optimal mechanisms for information sharing in service systems and platform markets. His research has been published in leading journals including Management Science, Operations Research, and Stochastic Systems and has been funded by the National Science Foundation. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, Iyer was on the faculty of the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University. He holds a Ph.D. degree from Stanford University.

Zhaosong-Lu

Zhaosong Lu, Professor

Professor Zhaosong Lu's research interests include theory and algorithms for continuous optimization, with applications in data analytics, machine learning, statistics, and image processing, among others. He has published extensively in major journals such as SIAM Journal on Optimization, Mathematical Programming, and Mathematics of Operations Research. His research has been funded by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, he was a full professor in the Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University. He holds a Ph.D. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Yiling-Zhang

Yiling Zhang, Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor Yiling Zhang’s research focuses on developing application-motivated theory in data-driven optimization problems. Her research interests include stochastic programming, integer programming, nonlinear programming and applications of optimization techniques and statistical analysis in complex service systems, including energy, healthcare, and transportation. Her research has been published in flagship journals such as Operations Research, SIAM Journal on Optimization, and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management. Assistant Professor Zhang holds a Ph.D. degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
