Duane Nykamp, Jonathan Rogness, and Mike Weimerskirch Awarded $1.5 Million Grant

Duane Nykamp, Jonathan Rogness, and Mike Weimerskirch have been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education Program to build an open data-driven educational technology platform and run online learning experiments aimed toward improving open educational content.

This four-year grant, part of a nearly two million dollar collaborative award involving the University of Minnesota's MathCEP, the Ohio State University, and Ithaca College, will support the development of the Distributed Open Education Network (Doenet) that is, at its core, a mechanism for measuring and sharing student interactions with web pages and storing anonymized data in an open distributed data warehouse.  The Doenet platform will include tools for authoring interactive educational content, conducting educational research using the content, and discovering the most effective content based on the research results.
