2022-2023 Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship Winner

ME PhD student Sai Ranjeet Narayanan won an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship (IDF) from the Graduate School. The program provides outstanding PhD students who are engaged in interdisciplinary research the opportunity to study with faculty at one of the University's research centers or institutes during the fellowship year.

Sai works in the Computational Reactive Flow and Energy Laboratory (CRFEL) and is advised by Suo Yang. His areas of specialization are internal combustion engines and hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulations, as well as modeling particle transport in indoor systems. For his IDF fellowship year, his host center will be the Institute for Engineering in Medicine, where he will be researching viral aerosol transport in different everyday environments. This project allows him to interact and work with experts from fields such as virology, biomedical sciences, and public health sciences, which lie outside his area of specialization.
