ME PhD Student Wins 2023 Mestenhauser Student Award

Akash Dhotre, a PhD student advised by Sayan Biswas, recently won a 2023 Mestenhauser Student Award for Excellence in Campus Internationalization. This award recognizes outstanding student contributions to international education, and acknowledges the important work being done to make our campus a better place for international students. Four UMN students received 2023 awards; Dhotre is the only student from CSE.

"I was delighted to nominate Akash for this award because of his impressive involvement in assisting fellow international students," said Biswas. "He has taken on various responsibilities, such as being co-president of the ME Grad Council, as well as being a part of the Minnesota International Student Association (MISA), Small World Coffee Hour, UMN Navigators, and more, showcasing his dedication and active participation. He is involved in the initiatives by the ME Grad Council on student mental health and increasing women participation in STEM. He has taken on leadership roles in various organizations that promote cross-culture exchange and understanding. He has also volunteered to mentor international students, helping them adjust to life on our campus. If you know Akash, you know he is always willing to help others!"
