U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Research Program Winners at UMN ME

Assistant Professors Sayan Biswas and Marien Simeni are among 91 early career scientist from across the country who received funding from the prestigious U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Early Career Research Program (ECRP). The program will award a total of $148 million in funding for research covering a wide range of topics and is designed to develop the next generation of STEM leaders to solidify America's position at the forefront of science innovation.

ECRP awardees in this round of funding were required to be an untenured researcher, a tenure-track assistant or associate professor at a U.S. academic institution, or a full-time employee at a DOE national laboratory or Office of Science user facility who received their Ph.D. within the past 12 years.

 

Research topics for the five-year projects are required to fall within the scope of one of the Office of Science’s eight major program areas: 

  • Accelerator R&D and Production
  • Advanced Scientific Computing Research
  • Basic Energy Sciences 
  • Biological and Environmental Research
  • Fusion Energy Sciences
  • High Energy Physics
  • Isotope R&D and Production
  • Nuclear Physics


The goal of the ECRP is to support exceptional researchers in the early stages of their careers.
