Speaker Series: "A perspective on robotics" with Dr. Henrik Christensen

Please join us in Welcoming Dr. Henrik Christensen (University of California - San Diego) for MnRI's inaugural address and presentation. Celebrating in conjunction with the launch of the Minnesota Robotics Institute, this event will welcome the future of robotics and sensing education for the University and the state of Minnesota.

Abstract

Robotics has recently celebrated its 60 year anniversary. The field started out almost exclusively in manufacturing for dirty, dull and dangerous tasks. Today robots are leverage far beyond the factory floor for empowering humans across manufacturing, services, healthcare, defense and space. We will provide an overview of the state of robotics. We will also discuss mega-trends that are changing robotics. In addition we will review major opportunities and challenges for robotics with a perspective to business opportunities, technology innovation and systems integration.
