Chemistry Diversity and Inclusion Committee debuts DEI Self-Study program

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (04/26/2023) – The Department of Chemistry Diversity & Inclusion Committee is introducing a new self-study program for the University of Minnesota Chemistry community. The program encourages students, faculty, and staff to engage with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) lessons and stories through a variety of multimedia resources.

Members of the UMN Chemistry community are invited to visit the DEI Self-Study website to get started. Participants begin by finding a resource, such as a book, podcast, video, seminar, etc., and spending time to learn from the selected piece of media. Participants then log their experience by sharing what they engaged with and reflecting on the experience. As users work their way through materials and earn more points, pins are awarded to each user along the way.

The DEI Self-Study directly supports the Diversity and Inclusion mission of the Department of Chemistry to “leverage the transformative power of equity and diversity to advance excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.” The program is intended to support and motivate the UMN Chemistry community to engage with DEI topics that are of particular interest to them through a variety of media formats. All members of the Chemistry community are encouraged to engage in this self-study program and in everyday opportunities to celebrate and strengthen an accessible, just, and equitable departmental culture and climate.
