Valls' book published

Professor Oriol Valls of the School of Physics and Astronomy has published a book Superconductor/Ferromagnet Nanostructures: An Illustration of the Physics of Hybrid Nanomaterials.

Valls' aim in writing the book was to explain how the equilibrium and transport properties of these heterostructures can be accurately calculated  starting from a standard BCS type Hamiltonian. The main techniques, including both analytical and numerical methods, are discussed in detail with the results in agreement with experiment. This is a theory book, but the audience is intended to be broader, including anyone with an introductory graduate knowledge of physics, or even an a determined undergraduate with a solid background in the sub-discipline.

According to Valls, "Superconductor/ferromagnet nanostructures have manifold applications in electronic devices and studying them provides us with considerable insights into fundamental physics and the general study of hybrid nanomaterials."

Superconductor/Ferromagnet Nanostructures: An Illustration of the Physics of Hybrid Nanomaterials is available from World Scientific.
