Get ready for the career fair!

The CSE Career Center is offering a wide variety of workshops to help you prepare for the Spring 2018 CSE Career Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 3M Arena at Mariucci. The Career Center will also offer extended drop-in hours prior to the Career Fair.

Extended Drop-in Hours

The CSE Career Center will offer the following drop-in hours prior to the Career Fair:

  • Monday, Jan. 29-Friday, Feb. 2: 1-4 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 5: All day 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 6: No drop-ins due to the Resume Marathon

Resume Writing Workshop

Monday, Jan. 29, 2018

Your resume is an important tool to market your experiences to prospective employers. This workshop will cover what information is necessary or most important on a resume, and how you can best market and communicate your education, skills, and experiences most related to the type of position you are seeking.

Job and Internship Search Strategies Workshop

The best advice for internship and job searching is to begin your search early. Before you begin to look for opportunities it is important to establish what is most important to you when it comes to industries, companies, and types of positions you are interested in. This workshop will provide effective strategies you can use when searching for jobs or internships.

Get ready to impress at the Career Fair. Information presented will include what to wear, what to bring, how to make a positive impression with employers you meet at the fair, the importance of networking, strategies you can use to build or expand your network, as well as how you can use networking to lead you to internship and job opportunities.

Interviewing and Job Offer Negotiating Workshop

Whether you are applying for an internship or full-time job, the interview is one of the most important parts of the application process. This workshop will outline the different types of interviews and questions you can expect, how to best prepare and succeed in your interview, and provide you with suggested strategies you can use to answer some of the most commonly asked interview questions. This workshop will also help you learn some of the typical components of an offer and discover strategies for benchmarking and asking for what you need.

If you aren’t able to participate in our lunch-hour workshops, this evening event is for you! This workshop will include career fair preparation information such as what to wear, what to bring, and how to approach employers at the Career Fair. We will also offer valuable resume advice, including how you can best market and communicate your education, skills, and experiences to potential employers.

WISE Medtronic Women Tell All Panel & Networking

Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018
5:30-7 p.m., reception following
Coffman Memorial Union, Mississippi Room

Make connections leading up to the CSE Spring Career Fair by networking with more than 20 scientists and engineers from Medtronic’s own WISE initiative. This is a unique opportunity to meet women working in research, testing, manufacturing, design, and business in one night! Medtronic hires a wide range of majors including electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, and more. This evening will include speed networking, Q&A panel, and reception. Hot hors d’oeuvres will be provided. To attend, complete the WISE Medtronic Networking Event RSVP form.

International Student Career Fair Prep

Friday, Feb. 2, 2018

This workshop is for international students who are searching for an internship or full-time job. The workshop will discuss what to expect during your job search, how to discuss your work authorization status with companies, and how to identify resources. There will also be time for you to ask questions.

Resume Marathon

Bring a paper copy of your resume. 

Do you need your resume reviewed prior to the Career Fair? If so, the CSE Career Center will offer 10-minute resume reviews by about 20 employer partners. Arrive early to ensure you receive a resume review. Resumes will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance appointments can be made. Practice Interview Days

Wednesday, Feb. 14 and Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018

Don’t use an actual interview to practice your interview skills! Practice your interview skills with a REAL employer before the big interview.  Interviews are 30 minutes followed by 15 minutes of feedback. Register on GoldPASS via the “Interview on Campus” tab. Search for event ID# 4882. Sign up early as spots are limited. To register, visit the GoldPASS website.
