Meet the Advisory Board: Michael Wright

If you're a TLI student or alumni you've met some of our amazing faculty and staff, but there is another important group of people working behind the scene to ensure our programs offer the most relevant and high-caliber leadership and industry education possible. The Technological Leadership Institute Advisory Board does this by reviewing curricula, suggesting new programming opportunities, supporting TLI’s public engagement activities and sharing their technology industry expertise.

We wanted to introduce you to some of our esteemed members through our Meet the Advisory Board series.

First up, meet advisory board member and former chair, Michael Wright. He is founding partner of Intercepting Horizons, LLC. He has had a successful career as an entrepreneur, senior high-technology executive, and strategist with expertise in leadership, operations, and strategy, as well as in governance and organizational architecture.

Michael first joined the TLI Advisory Board in 2015.

"I felt what Jim Renier (former Honeywell CEO) had the insight to support, the idea of range, was critical to the future success of all companies as all businesses become 'technology-driven enterprises'," he said. "Along with that the desire to continue to be involved with educating current and future executives whose decisions will have impact."

Michael has been a featured speaker in TLI's Technically Speaking series and Rochester Signature Series. He is also a former adjunct professor at the Carlson School of Management where he taught Strategic Leadership.

"My passions are understanding the convergences of technologies creating new ecosystems and helping others build high-impact organizations, companies, products, and people," he says. "I believe performance is the residual of behaviors and the difference between an opportunity and a threat is the time horizon in which you see it."

Michael has two patents in micro-fluidics, co-designed and developed industry-changing products, dozens of mergers and acquisitions, written over 40 articles on technology and business, and is the author of 'The New Business Normal' and the recently released 'The Exponential Era'.
