On Tuesday, Oct. 13, more than 300 Minnesota energy enthusiasts packed the McNamara Alumni Center for the Minnesota Energy Innovation Summit. The day marked the merger of several Minnesota energy events — Electroposium, the Recharge Minnesota Symposium, Electrify MN, and the MN Cleantech Innovation Summit — into one unified summit.

Co-organized by the Technological Leadership Institute, the Midwest clean energy accelerator Grid Catalyst, the Center for Electrification Opportunity, the Center for Transportation Studies, Recharge America, and the Beneficial Electrification League, the summit featured a wide range of speakers discussing topics such as transit electrification, funding energy innovation, and geothermal energy to an audience of community leaders, builders, innovators, founders, students, and more. The event also shined a spotlight on six energy startups during two startup showcase panels.

During the closing address, Grid Catalyst President Nina Axelson shared a hopeful message about Minnesota’s energy future.

“I’m betting on Minnesota,” Axelson said. “And all of you gathered in this room make me even more certain that it’s the right bet.”

Minnesota Energy Summit Highlights

• 3M's light-filtering greenhouse membranes are increasing crop yields while cutting energy costs for growers worldwide — technology developed right here in Minnesota.

• Winter camelina, developed by the University of Minnesota and grown by Cargill, is powering Delta Airlines flights with sustainable aviation fuel while creating new revenue streams for Minnesota farmers — part of the GREATER MSP Partnership-led Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub’s initiatives.

• University of Minnesota-launched Niron Magnetics, Inc. is bringing 175 manufacturing jobs to Sartell, MN, with their rare-earth-free magnet factory — driving supply chain sustainability and growing the state’s manufacturing base.

• Rural electric co-ops Great River Energy and Dakota Electric Association are partnering with startups and organizations like Zero Homes and Center for Energy and Environment to help their member-owners save money through electrification and energy efficiency.

• Grid Catalyst's 2025 Demonstration Cohort startups – Flow Environmental Systems, LiquidCool Solutions, Inc., C-Motive Technologies, Enspi.io, and EcoSnap, LLC — are gaining traction through Minnesota-based pilot projects. As C-Motive's Brandi Kochera put it: "C-Motive wouldn't exist as a company without this pilot program."

• Minnesota leaders are growing working capital including experts at Avisen Legal, the Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority ("Green Bank") mobilizing over $21 million in debt funding, and Structure Climate enabling catalytic capital.
