Technological Leadership Institute and Graduate School Announce Institute for Innovation and Change

The Technological Leadership Institute and the University of Minnesota Graduate School are proud to announce the launch of the Institute for Innovation and Change (IIC), a new multi- and interdisciplinary initiative designed for graduate students and postdocs to cultivate the mindset and skillsets to be agents of change. Launching in Fall 2026, the IIC seeks participants from any discipline who want to turn ideas into action, whether by shaping systems, influencing policy, founding startups, or reimagining the future of their fields.

The IIC will equip participants with essential skills and a multidisciplinary network to enhance their competencies and confidence to effect change in their communities. Through the program, participants will receive mentorship from the IIC Board of Advisors and the broader IIC community to develop a formal change action plan. Additionally, the institute offers funding of up to $1,000 to support professional development for those enrolled.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a professional or research-based Master's (MPH, MS, MA, etc.) or a doctoral program (PhD, DNP, EdD, etc.) and be in good academic standing through Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Students enrolled in GRAD 999 are not eligible. Postdoctoral Associates (9546) or Postdoctoral Fellows (9560) with a 50-100% appointment through Spring 2027 are also encouraged to apply.
