TLI Faculty Member's Company Receives $1M Federal Grant From Defense Department

RxFunction, whose CTO and co-founder is TLI faculty member Dr. Lars Oddsson, has been awarded a federal contract by the Department of Defense for rehabilitation research and development. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Direct Phase II contract will fund the company's work on incorporating its Walkasins sensory neuroprosthetic technology into artificial limbs for active-duty military, veterans and civilians who have lower limb trauma and/or loss.

Walkasins, manufactured by the medical device company RxFunction, are wearable sensory prosthetics for patients with balance problems such as peripheral neuropathy. In addition to serving as the company's CTO, Dr. Lars Oddsson co-invented and developed the patented technology. He teaches in our M.S. in Medical Device Innovation (MDI) program.
