The University of Minnesota has a number of central services and resources in place and are adding more weekly to assist in preparing for the semester as it takes shape. This list is evolving.

Learning Online 101 is a self-paced course for students that prepares you for technical and academic success in online and hybrid courses. As we are thrust into online and blended learning due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, skills that make you successful online learners are more important than ever. The course touches on self-motivation, time management, technical skills, and available student support, which all contribute to greater success in online classes, with advice directly from UMN faculty and students. Learning Online 101 prepares you to meet these challenges and typically takes 2-3 hours to complete.

Coursera Courses and Specializations
All University of Minnesota instructors, students, and staff have access to more than 3,800 courses and 400 Coursera Specializations (sets of courses in a specific area) at no cost. Learners can register at no charge through February 28th, 2021, and will have until April 30th, 2021, to complete their Coursera courses.  This electronic curricular material consists of a series of modules with 8-12 minute video segments, readings, assessments, and assignments that can be used to supplement your content. Courses are available in a variety of disciplines from leading U.S. and international universities, including the University of Minnesota. Faculty, students, and staff can now take any of the Coursera offerings at no charge.

- New TA Orientation (live sessions January 12, 2021, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; recordings available)
In this interactive session, new teaching assistants will be introduced to university resources for teaching, and will reflect on and discuss teaching strategies, roles, and responsibilities. Participants will also be introduced to key policies around FERPA, working with students with disabilities, and responsibilities in reporting Title IX violations, among others. All participants will learn from each other by talking through responses to potential challenging moments in the classroom.
