Join the College of Science and Engineering for Homecoming Week! CSE will host a number of college-specific events, as well as participate in all-University events. 

CSE Day of Service—Minnesota Computers for Schools

Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019
9 a.m.-Noon

Minnesota Computers for Schools
504 Malcolm Ave. SE, Suite 100, Minneapolis

Kick off Homecoming Week by participating in the University of Minnesota Day of Service. CSE will host service activities at Minnesota Computers for Schools. Volunteers will help with a variety of tasks in the warehouse, such as testing computers, installing memory and hard drives, sorting parts for recycling, helping with inventory, and organizing inventory. 

Children 10 and older are welcome. Registration closed; this event has reached capacity.

If you don’t live in the Twin Cities metro area, Day of Service activities will be held simultaneously across the United States and at some international locations.

Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Day of Service—Community Tree Planting

CEMS will host a U of M Day of Service site at the Doris A. Kemp Park. All ages are invited to assist Hennepin County and City of Champlin foresters with tree planting. Tools, trees, and instructions on how to plant them will be provided. Volunteers will receive a University of Minnesota drawstring backpack and special CEMS Centennial and Jubilee gifts!

Computer Science & Engineering Thirst for Knowledge Alumni Gathering and Speaker Series: Robotics

Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics Meet and Greet with Michele Brekke

Join Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics department alumni, students, faculty, and friends for a complimentary meet and greet with Homecoming Grand Marshal Michele Brekke (B.S. '75, M.S. '77). Brekke worked in a number of positions at NASA, and is now a flight manager for the Boeing CST-100 Starliner commercial spacecraft. She will be sharing her journey through her career and taking questions.

Homecoming Parade, featuring Grand Marshal Michele Brekke (Aero ’75, M.S. 77)

Celebrate Homecoming with one of the oldest traditions at the U, the Homecoming Parade! The parade runs down University Avenue SE from 12th Avenue SE to Walnut Street.

This year’s Grand Marshal is CSE alumna Michele Brekke (Aero ’75, M.S. ’77). She retired from the NASA Johnson Space Center in 2014, after 37 years of service in spaceflight mission operations. Her career started as an instructor to space shuttle astronauts in 1977 and advanced to leadership roles in both NASA Space Shuttle and Space Station Programs.

Residing in Houston, Texas, Michele is now a flight manager for the Boeing CST-100 Starliner—one of the world’s first commercially owned spacecrafts that will transport NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station.
