About the location

Hong Kong is situated in the heart of Asia, at the southern tip of China. Home to more than 7.3 million people, Hong Kong is a unique place with a fast-paced, 21st-century lifestyle interwoven with local traditions and countryside charms. With both Chinese and English as the official languages, Hong Kong is both international and safe. The Hong Kong International Airport is a travel hub where you can reach anywhere in Asia within four hours.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) occupies a stunning 150-acre site overlooking pristine Clearwater Bay on the Sai Kung Peninsula. The area is often considered one of Hong Kong’s havens for outdoor lovers. People do not normally associate Hong Kong with nature, but only around 25% of Hong Kong is the dense urban space well known to the world. The other 75% is undeveloped and comprises country parks and nature reserves. With the efficient public transportation system, you are never far from urban areas. A 15-minute bus ride will take you from HKUST to the nearest subway station.

Find more information about this summer exchange opportunity on the HKUST International Summer School website.

Academics

The HKUST Summer School welcomes undergraduate students from institutions outside Hong Kong to study at HKUST during the summer. The program offers a rewarding academic and cultural experience for students worldwide. Participants can enroll for either four or eight weeks and take undergraduate-level, credit-bearing courses taught by HKUST faculty. The program also includes local excursions and cultural activities that provide insight into the region.

Students enrolling in one session may take one or two undergraduate courses, while those enrolling in two sessions may take up to three. Upon program completion, HKUST will issue academic transcripts. (HKUST credits transfer to UMN on a one-to-one basis.)

For more information, visit the HKUST Summer School website.
