AI Coordination Committee
Our Mission
We are committed to fostering AI innovation while ensuring rigorous data security and policy compliance across the college. Facilitated by the Dean's Office, the AICC serves as the bridge between individual innovation and enterprise-level solutions, helping users navigate the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence at the University of Minnesota. Check out our current collection of managed Gemini Gems.
How We Support You
We categorize AI initiatives into two primary tiers to ensure every project receives the appropriate level of support and oversight:
Tier 1: Self-Service & Innovation
Ideal for personal productivity and departmental tools using public data (e.g., custom Gemini Gems). Support is provided through the CSE AI Makerspace, offering training, coaching, and prompt engineering assistance.
Tier 2: Centrally Managed Solutions
Designed for tools involving sensitive data, high-impact systemic improvements, or multi-departmental use. These projects undergo a formal consultation and review process to ensure they are robust, secure, and maintained by the college.
The Request Process
Consultation: Submit your request via our AICC Consultation Request Form
Review: Our committee evaluates requests based on data risk, scope, strategic fit, and long-term sustainability.
Development: Approved projects move into development, supported by CSE-IT and the AICC.
Your AI Network
The AICC works in close coordination with key partners to support your work:
AI Hub: University-wide initiative to advance artificial intelligence innovation, education and workforce development across Minnesota
AI Makerspace: Your "R&D Lab" for hands-on experimentation, learning, prototyping, and workshops.
CSE-IT: Providing the technical engine and infrastructure for AI tools.
OIT: Managing enterprise-level platforms and system-wide security policies.
University Libraries: Offering expertise on AI ethics, copyright, and information literacy.
