CSE: New Policy Bot and AICC Resources

A message from CSE Dean Andrew Alleyne:

Dear CSE Colleagues,

As AI continues to advance, integrating AI tools into our work will be a key aspect of CSE's continued success. AI will change the way we all work, and effective AI adoption will require collaboration across all of our mission-delivery and business functions. Last Fall, to coordinate our efforts I established a committee of collegiate leaders, chaired by Associate Dean Blank, to create a structure and processes for developing and deploying AI tools across the college. The committee will oversee development, deployment, and curation of AI tools with a college-wide impact, as well as be an integral part of helping to ensure that employees have clear access to educational opportunities to upskill as their work changes.

Our first tool is a Gemini Gem chatbot that can answer and discuss questions about University policies. It is structured to draw only upon official university policy documents, reducing errors and hallucinations. Please try it; we'd welcome your feedback.  We believe this first pilot tool will pave the way for more effective and efficient CSE processes.

After the development of this pilot, the committee is looking for future development of ideas that will have a high-impact on CSE.  Therefore, it has established standard processes for receiving ideas for consideration. Please submit ideas to the committee, and they will follow up with you, or stop by the AI Makerspace on the first floor of Walter Library and talk with Joe Finnegan about whatever AI topics are on your mind.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank the committee and all of you as we navigate these times of rapid change.

Best regards,

Andrew Alleyne
