Institute of Technology students in the class "Engineering Design for Sustainable Development" won the Acara Challenge last year with their business plan for clean water in the slums of Mumbai, India.

This year, teams from 14 universities in the U.S. and India are competing in the Acara Challenge 2010 for the opportunity to turn their plan into a sustainable business. Find out how they are working to meet the challenge and what they are learning about collaborating across continents.

At the University of Minnesota, students taking Civil Engineering 5180 join forces with the Indian Institute of Technology to compete for a chance to design and implement a real-world solution to a global health issue. The class consists of three teams of students from the Institute of Technology, Carlson School of Management, and the School of Public Health.

SCImagine emphasizes the Science & Engineering Library's role as an intellectual gathering place on campus. Each spring, the Library showcases University teaching, learning and research in the physical sciences and engineering, offering fascinating presentations and lively discussions.
